APS Travel Award Grant Information

A limited number of travel awards are available for attendance at the 20th American Peptide Symposium. The Travel Award Committee’s mission is to administer financial support for travel and housing expenses in order to provide a broad opportunity for young investigators to participate in a major scientific event, meet leaders and colleagues in the field, and present their research projects to the scientific community.

Because of limited resources, awards will only be given to applicants submitting and presenting papers at the Symposium. All applicants must hold current (2007-2008) membership in the American Peptide Society. Individual supplements will vary depending on airfare or automobile mileage. It is hoped that a considerable portion of the travel expenses can be covered, but full coverage cannot be guaranteed. Applicants are required to attend the entire meeting. Checks will be disbursed during the last day of the Symposium.

Discounted room rates have been negotiated with the hotels. Quad rooms will accommodate up to four people. The number of rooms is limited and is offered on a first-come, first-serve basis. An electronic bulletin board will be set up to assist in the pairing of roommates. Please see the Hotel Accommodations page and make your reservations early in order to guarantee your room. Please note that the Montreal Jazz Music Festival and other summer festivals occupy the same time window as the Symposium and lodging throughout the city will be limited.

Submissions are assessed for:

  • Eligibility.
  • Scientific evaluation of the project (significance and innovation).
  • Financial need.
  • Previous Travel Awards received.
  • Proximity to graduation and end of training.
  • Coverage of a wide range of symposium topics.
  • Financial aid distribution so that as many awards as possible can be granted and provide a level of support that is financially meaningful.

Application Instructions

Those wishing to apply for a travel grant should send electronically a complete application package (if possible as a single pdf file) containing:

1. A completed application form (click here to download).

2. A letter of recommendation from their supervisor with electronic signature.

3. An abstract relevant to their own research, that will be presented by said applicant. (You must also submit your abstract online through the APS website.)

4. A brief curriculum vitae (two pages maximum).

5. A one-page essay describing their research focus and reasons for wishing to attend this Symposium.

6. On-line service or travel agency estimate for airfare expenses.

Send to:

Dr. Pierrette Gaudreau, Chair
APS Travel Grant Committee
pierrette.gaudreau@umontreal.ca

The deadline for receipt of the application is
February 28, 2007.
